When I first moved into my current home, I started with a traditional "TV on a TV cabinet" setup. After a while I wanted a cleaner look, so I mounted the TV on the wall using a slim wall mount.
This arrangement worked well for some time, but eventually I realized I needed more space in the living room. The TV stand was simply taking up valuable floor area that i wanted to free up.
After sketching some ideas with my father (and getting my wife’s approval), I ended up with the setup I have now: a kind of false wall, flanked on each side by floor to ceiling “bookcase” shelving units. These hold books, my PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, NVIDIA Shield, and AV receiver.
Behind both edges of the false wall are two roughly 2.5 meter RGB LED strips, running from floor to ceiling on each side. I connected these to a ESP32 with WLED installed, this way i can control the LED strips using my Home Assistant dashboards.
