Turning my attic blinds into smart blinds with a Zigbee smart blinds motor

I recently upgraded the manual blinds in my attic and turned them into smart blinds using a Zigbee blinds motor. It was a relatively simple project, but it has already made the space much more comfortable and convenient.

Before the upgrade, I had to manually open and close the blinds every day. Since the attic gets a lot of sunlight, I wanted a way to automatically manage the natural light and warmth without having to think about it.

After installing the Zigbee motor, I connected it to my smart home setup and created two simple automations:
  •  Open the blinds at 8:00
  •  Close the blinds at 20:00

Using Zigbee also means the blinds integrate nicely with the rest of my smart home devices while keeping power consumption low and response times fast.

The Zigbee blinds motor I used is a Moes AM43 Blind Drive Motor, i picked this because i could find some positive feedback for this brand and type, and because its not to expensive. (at the time of buying it was 40 euro)

The automation I used is as follows:
